Jan Draaisma is a member of STP’s compliance team, primarily responsible for preparing income and corporation tax declarations. During his studies, Jan focussed on the subject of loss settlement, while in his Caribbean years on the island of Curaçao, he gained ample experience in dealing with the OECD international tax compliance requirements.
To me, good tax advice is
For me, there are three sides to this. Our first job is to listen. Listen very carefully to the client, so you are sure you are getting all the information you need, all the relevant facts. Next, you look at all the options, you weigh all of the risks. Then, finally, we come up with a sound, solid end product that meets the client’s demands.
Why STP?
When you are new here, you look at these experienced professionals going about their work and you just wonder about the absence of stress. They all look perfectly relaxed. Which is so wonderful. Everyone is open and approachable, you can talk to anyone. Also, the way this organisation is set up allows you to discover and follow your own specific interests, building skills and expertise according to a personal plan of development.
Advice to newcomers to the profession
Find out what aspects of the business you are really interested in. Then look at the actual work you would be doing and see if that appeals to you. Try and gain experience in all sorts of positions and capacities, so when you do make a choice, you know it’s the right one for you as a professional and as a person.
